"...I wish I had War With The World: The College Battlefield when I was attending college..."

"Going off to college can be both exciting and challenging. It seems that we have the whole world open to us with being on our own, working toward a major, and moving onto adulthood. Along with the exciting experiences, Pastor Mitchell reminds Christians that there is much deception at both Christian and secular colleges. I am reminded of the verse in Matthew 4:9, where Jesus was tempted to bow down to the devil's schemes and gain worldly pleasure. While attending a secular college as a Christian myself, I have seen firsthand temptations, such as alcohol, premarital sex, secular humanism, and how the temptations have claimed the souls of both Christians and non-Christians. War With The World: The College Battlefield was written as both a practical guide for Christians faced with tempting situations and as a guide for Christians to stay connected and stay strong in their faith all four years by an author who has lived through every word he has written. While sometimes difficult, staying connected with Christ and His followers helped me survive my college experience and helped me become a stronger man of God. I wish I had War With The World: The College Battlefield when I was attending college, as I did not know what to expect, both spiritually and naturally, until I was on campus. I highly recommend Pastor Mitchell's book to future generations without reservations."

"I couldn't put it down!" - January 31, 2010

By Ariel Walters "wittlemermaid"

I received this book as a gift on my 17th birthday last year. As a mild Christian who had barely opened the Bible (let alone a book about Christianity) before then, I didn't expect this book to exactly "hit home" with me. Well it did. As soon as I started from page one, I couldn't place WWTW down until I had finished reading about the author in the back. I was impressed that someone in this day and age could touch base with modern teenage society and essentially "mould" the Bible into everyday events. WWTW takes the reader on a journey through the toughest parts of their life: school, family matters, social events, and even the sexual battlefield fighting it out with kids today. The author connects with the teenage reader one-on-one through these pages, opening up a point of view that was shared by one man thousands of years ago. A teenager, once introverted and self-conscious before reading this book, will learn to open up and feel a sense of belonging in the world. I can personally say that I was that shy, self-loathing teenager once, but now I know I am loved through God's eyes.

Even if the reader doesn't believe in the "Creator", they could not possibly deny that this book has given them a sense of self worth and understanding of the "teenage battlefield" out there these days.

This book had literally made me laugh, cry, and experience all other emotions in between. I have never been stronger in my religion now thanks to this book. I highly recommend War With The World: The Teenage Battlefield to anyone seeking to understand God's inner workings, and to those teenagers who seek knowledge on how to fight in the "war" around them.

Youth Pastor at Rick Warren’s Church Recommends Book
Book Review: War with the World

Josh on March 30, 2010

I read some of Steve Mitchells’ War with the World: The Teenage Battlefield a few months ago and meant to make a mention of it here on the blog as well in case it might interest you. War with the World is a devotional book for students, calling them to fight through the all-too-common struggles of their teenage years and live a sold-out life for Christ. It challenges them to a life of purity and living above the temptations of the world. The book is very conservative in style and tone, it is a tool that would work really well at churches like the one I grew up in and most of my family attend. It is written with tons of Bible references and will definitely point students to Scripture. If that is the setting you are ministering in, definitely check it out.
